How to find who doesn't follow you back

A complete guide. It takes about 5 minutes of your time, plus the wait for Instagram to prepare your file.

The short version

  1. Ask Instagram for a copy of your Followers and following data.
  2. Download the ZIP file from the email Instagram sends you.
  3. Upload that ZIP to Ghost Check and wait about 25 seconds.
  4. Unlock your results with Buy a Coffee (Rs. 11) or Watch an ad.
Private by design. Your ZIP is read inside your own browser. It is never uploaded, and we never ask for your username or password.

Step 1: Request your data from Instagram

You can do this in the Instagram app or on the website. Menu names change now and then, so yours may read slightly differently.

  1. Open Instagram on your phone, or log in at instagram.com on a computer.
  2. Go to your profile and open the menu (the three lines), then choose Settings and privacy.
  3. Open Accounts Center.
  4. Choose Your information and permissions.
  5. Tap Export your information (older versions call it Download your information), then Create export or Request a download.
  6. If you have more than one account, pick the account you want to check, then continue.
  7. Choose Export to device (or Download to device).
  8. Choose Customize information (or Some of your information), scroll down and tick only Followers and following. Leave everything else unticked so the file stays small and arrives faster.
  9. Set Date range to All time.
  10. Set Format to HTML or JSON. Ghost Check reads both, so pick either one.
  11. Tap Start export (or Create files).

Step 2: Download the ZIP file

  • Instagram emails you a download link when your file is ready. This can take a few minutes, a few hours, or occasionally longer.
  • Open the email on the device you want to use, and download the ZIP file.
  • Do not unzip it. Upload the ZIP exactly as it is.
Never enter your Instagram password anywhere except Instagram. Ghost Check does not need it.

Step 3: HTML or JSON, both work

Ghost Check looks inside your ZIP and finds the right files by itself, in either format:

  • HTML export: followers_1.html and following.html
  • JSON export: followers_1.json and following.json

If you have a lot of followers, Instagram may split them into several files (followers_1, followers_2 and so on). Ghost Check combines them all.

Step 4: Upload and scan

  1. Open Ghost Check.
  2. Tap the upload box and choose your ZIP file, or drag it in on a computer.
  3. Wait about 25 seconds while it reads your followers and following lists and compares them.

Step 5: See your results

When the scan finishes, a window shows how many accounts do not follow you back. The full list is unlocked in one of two ways. Both are optional ways to support this free tool:

  • Buy a Coffee, Rs. 11. This opens your UPI app with the payment already filled in. Ghost Check never sees your bank or UPI details.
  • Watch an ad. Tap the button and an advertiser's page opens in a new tab. Look at it for a moment, then come back to the Ghost Check tab. Your results appear automatically.
Ad did not open, or you are already back? Tap Ad did not open? Tap here to open it again, or wait a few seconds and a Show my results button appears. Your scan stays on the page, so you never need to upload the ZIP again.

Every account in the list links straight to its Instagram profile, so you can open it and unfollow if you choose.

Troubleshooting

  • "Could not find the followers and following files." Check that you ticked Followers and following, and that you uploaded the ZIP itself, not a folder you unzipped.
  • The list looks out of date. Your export is a snapshot from the moment you requested it. Request a new export for fresh numbers.
  • The upload does nothing on my phone. Make sure the download finished and the file ends in .zip. Some phones save it in a "Downloads" folder you need to browse to.
  • Results do not show after the ad. Switch back to the Ghost Check tab. If nothing happens, tap Show my results.

  • ലിസ്റ്റ് പഴയതായി തോന്നുന്നു. നിങ്ങൾ എക്സ്പോർട്ട് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട നിമിഷത്തിലെ അവസ്ഥയാണ് ഫയലിൽ ഉണ്ടാവുക. പുതിയ കണക്കുകൾക്ക് വീണ്ടും എക്സ്പോർട്ട് ആവശ്യപ്പെടുക.
  • ഫോണിൽ അപ്‌ലോഡ് ഒന്നും സംഭവിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഡൗൺലോഡ് പൂർത്തിയായെന്നും ഫയൽ .zip ആയി അവസാനിക്കുന്നുവെന്നും ഉറപ്പാക്കുക. ചില ഫോണുകളിൽ "Downloads" ഫോൾഡറിൽ പോയി തിരഞ്ഞെടുക്കേണ്ടി വരും.
  • പരസ്യത്തിന് ശേഷം റിസൾട്ട് വരുന്നില്ല. Ghost Check ടാബിലേക്ക് തിരിച്ചുവരിക. എന്നിട്ടും ഒന്നും സംഭവിക്കുന്നില്ലെങ്കിൽ Show my results ടാപ്പ് ചെയ്യുക.
